I fell in love with midwifery while pregnant with my fourth child and reading Ina May Gaskin's Spiritual Midwifery. Her passion for women and for allowing their bodies to work organically in childbirth and yet possessing all the knowledge available to give excellent care when needed. One of my greatest joys in this world is accompanying women on the journey to becoming mothers.
I believe in the science and research surrounding our medical world but I also strongly believe in the mystery of our bodies and the power that women display and possess their whole lives.
I am a mom and a Nana. I have 4 amazing children (and their most perfect spouses) and 5 beautiful grandchildren. I have a saint of a husband who adores me and goes along with all my adventures with joy.
As a Certified Nurse Midwife in Abilene, TX, I would love to care for you and help you facilitate your dream home birth. I love people and I love how diverse we can be.
I am here to offer skilled and respectful homebirth and reproductive health care to the community of Abilene. As a Certified Nurse Midwife, I can offer care from adolescence into menopause. Well-woman visits are a vital part of my practice. I can prescribe medications and birth control. Maternity care includes prenatal visits, homebirth, and postpartum. I will do at least two home visits during that time - one at 36 weeks and one at 2 days postpartum.
I think it is important as a midwife to include family in your care. That could mean a discussion about your family during a well-woman exam. Or it could mean including your spouse and children in your prenatal visits and your birth. I believe that dads are important in the whole process and I am very careful to honor them and give them prominent space during birth. I love for families to involve their children as much as possible and to the comfort level of each individual family.
My wife and I found out we were expecting in 2019. We had zero experience with birthing centers and I was highly skeptical of birthing centers and ignorant to what a midwife was. My wife had previously delivered our other two children in hospitals.
Julie was one of the first care givers we met, and she immediately won us over. My wife felt so comfortable in her care from day one. As we transitioned into 2020 and the pandemic Julie worked diligently to make sure that comfort level was not only maintained, but elevated.
As a father and husband Julie was attentive to my questions and concerns as well. She provided excellent training and guidance for me throughout the pregnancy and delivery.
There were multiple midwives at the birthing center, but I recall my wife hoping and praying that Julie would be the one on call when she went into labor. Her prayers apparently worked because Julie was there and she ensured our every need was met.
I highly recommend Julie. She’s professional, caring and incredibly attentive. Our little guy, Cooper, is two now and I’m so thankful Julie is a part of his story.

I met Julie when I was about seven months pregnant with our second baby. We recently relocated for my husband's job and had to establish new care immediately. New town, no family nearby, due date close. It could have been a very stressful time but we were so blessed by our short time in Abilene. I love talking to people who are doing important work they love. Their eyes light up and they are energized in a way that feels contagious. Julie was like that when I came in for exams. She was assisting my midwife at that time and I was always thrilled when she was there on my appointment days. When the birthing day came it was a pretty exciting and fast birth. I was feeling extremely empowered and so thankful that my team let my body do the work in my own time. Julie was there too, cheering me on, encouraging and so calm and reassuring. All things I really appreciate in a good caregiver.
The most significant thing I recall though is when everyone else was doting on my fresh faced, beautiful, gigantic baby boy, Julie continued to focus solely on me. My comfort and care her first priority. Babies are the main event of course but I really loved her attention directed at me. I'd 100% recommend Julie's capable hands to any family in the area looking for informed and parent-empowered care. In this beautiful season of life she is such a gift to the Abilene community.

Julie was such a calming and supportive presence at my birth. She was so encouraging during and afterwards. I had a bit of a struggle with breastfeeding and her advice and care helped me through. I want to have more babies just so I can have her as my midwife again!
